코멘트: 서암문은 화성 서쪽 팔달산 꼭대기 성벽에 설치한 비상 출입문이다. 암문이란 깊속하고 후미진 곳에 설치하여 적이 모르게 출입하고 군수품을 조달하던 문을 의미한다. 화성에는 5곳의 암문이 있는데 모두 벽돌로 만들었다.서암문은 성벽을 안쪽으로 9도 꺾어 들어가도록 쌓고 그 사이에 문을 내 바깥에서 알아차리기 어렵다. 화공에 대비하기위한 오성지나 적을 감시하기 위한 비예 같은 별도의 방어 시설을 두지 않고 지형의 이점을 최대한 살렸다.Western Secret Entrance A secret entrance, called ammun in Korean, was an emergencypassage used to bring supplies and food into the fortress, without being noticed by the enemy. InHwaseong Fortress, there were a total of five secret entrances.The Western Secret Entrance has strategic importance because it is located near the Western CommandPost of Hwaseong Fortress. To prevent it from being seen fromn a distance, the fortress wall was bentinward and the entrance is accessible from the side. The rounded wall outside the entrance is madeof bricks instead of stones which creates a unique appearance. The Western Secret Entrance has largelmaintained its original structure which dates back to 1796.1796년(정조 20) 창건1975년 수리
